Volunteer

Do you have a few hours to spare? Are you retired and looking to keep busy? A parent with time to spare whilst the children are at school? If so, then the Arkwright Society has a volunteering opportunity to suit you.

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join our brilliant team to help us share the amazing story of Cromford Mills. There’s no experience required, just a willingness to learn and interact with our visitors. We provide full training and have a handful of benefits for our volunteer team including social events, training and talks, discount in our shop and cafes, lunch vouchers, mileage allowance and free parking.

Why does Cromford Mills need your help?

As a charity we have limited resources, but big ambitions and we simply couldn’t deliver everything we aim to do without the help of our volunteers. Your support is vital to the ongoing development of the site and ensuring our visitors understand its heritage and get the most out of their time here.

Today we have around 70 volunteers who contribute regularly across the site. Roles include tour guiding, assisting with school groups, helping with our events and meeting and greeting visitors. We would love for you to join our team.

Where?

Most of our volunteer opportunities take place at Cromford Mills. Some activities can be supported from home and our outdoor and conservation volunteering takes place across our green estate, which also includes Slinter Woods, Dunsley Meadows and the Lumsdale Valley.

When?

We’re open every day of the year except Christmas day, and with a variety of roles available, there is always something to get involved with. Your volunteering commitment depends on the role you do, and we try and be as flexible as possible so it can work alongside any other commitments you already have.

What now?

If you want to know more, please get in touch and email us with any questions you might have; we are more than happy to have a chat about how you can get involved.
