Guided Tours
Cromford Mills’ most immersive tour, lasting up to 1.5 hours, plus audio tour. This pass includes a guided tour of the Mill Yard by our knowledgeable volunteers, an opportunity to go behind the scenes and ‘meet Sir Richard Arkwright’ himself via an award-winning 3D cinematic experience inside the first mill, built in 1771. Lastly, a demonstration of a mini waterframe model in action, based upon Arkwright’s original design. In addition to your guided tour, your Mill Manager’s pass allows you access to an audio tour, taking you into Cromford Village to further engage with the ‘Birthplace of the Factory System’ and the original residencies of the workers. This is an annual pass so if you’re short on time, pop back within 12 months and enjoy at your leisure.
How do I book a guided tour?
Advanced booking online is recommended to secure a slot. Tickets will be released on the day to book in person only if spaces are available. Book online here. You can also click on the ‘Tickets’ Button at the top of the page. This will take you to an external website – look for the Mill Manager’s Pass event and select for the date you want.
What time are the tours?
Tour times are currently: 10:30, 13:00 and 15:00.
Bringing an under 16 with you?
Child 12+ £2.50, Under 12s are free, but a place must be booked for them when you reserve your tickets as they will count as part of the tour group numbers.
Are tours available in other languages?
Yes, guided tours are also available in French and German. Please contact volunteering@arkwrightsociety.org.uk to book one or for more information.
What is included in the Mill Manager’s Pass?
How much is a Mill Manager’s Pass?
Tickets are £15.00 per person and Child 12+ £2.50, this includes booking fee, if booked in advanced. Under 12s are free. You will be asked if you are happy to Gift Aid your Pass at no extra cost when picking up your ticket from the Mill Shop.
How long is a Mill Manager’s Pass valid for?
Your Mill Manager’s Pass is valid for 12 months from the date of purchase, so you can come back and visit any time over the year.
Already have a valid Mill Manager’s Annual Pass?
We advise pre-booking a time slot to avoid disappointment on the day. To book a tour, please email info@arkwrightsociety.org.uk with your choice of date and timeslot. You can use an Audio Tour with your Mill Manager’s Pass without needing to pre book one (subject to availability).
When do tickets go on sale?

What if my group contains more than 10 people?
You can book your own private tour guide if you have more than 10 people in your group. To ask about group bookings please email volunteering@arkwrightsociety.org.uk.
