A short 1.5 mile circular walk. The picturesque Lumsdale valley near Matlock witnessed the industrial revolution in miniature. The walk takes in the mill ponds and the remaining evidence of lead smelting, corn, bone and barytes milling, cotton spinning and, in the 19th century, cotton bleaching. Led by the authors of the history of Lumsdale in person, you will hear about the growth and decline of the various industries and the mill owners responsible.

Suitable clothing and footwear. Parts of the route are on rough surfaced paths.
Meet at the lay-by opposite Highfields Upper School, Upper Lumsdale, Matlock (DE4 5NA), on-street parking.
