Wheels of Change – Creative Workshops with Spiral Arts
The free workshops are being delivered by Spiral Arts as part of Derbyshire Makes, a county-wide celebration of creativity, heritage and making.
Across the sessions, participants of all ages will have the chance to get hands-on with weaving techniques, experimenting with willow, recycled fabrics, cardboard and colourful yarns to create their own striking wheel-shaped artworks. The designs take inspiration from Cromford’s remarkable industrial past, echoing the turning waterwheels and spinning machinery that once powered the village’s mills.
As they weave, visitors will also uncover fascinating stories of the local men, women and children who worked in spinning and weaving, discovering how craft, innovation and community shaped Cromford’s identity. It’s a wonderful opportunity to connect creativity with history — celebrating traditional skills while reimagining them in a fresh, contemporary way.
The activities are suitable for both adults and children, and all materials will be provided on the day — just bring your creativity. If you have booked a place but are unable to attend, please do let us know in advance so we can offer your space to someone else.
Please note that 17th March workshops are for adults only. However the workshops on 1st and 11th of April are for both adults and children.
