Derek Harbinson – Ceramics
About his work The vast majority of Derek’s work is wheel-thrown, created either as single pieces such as bowls and vases or as multiple elements that are later assembled. His inspiration often comes from a 1970s childhood, imagined civilisations and space travel, all infused with mid-century style and a sense of fun. (Instagram: @derek.harbinson)
About him Derek makes ceramics in his studio in a converted chapel in the beautiful Peak District, in the heart of England. Originally trained as a journalist, he spent many years as a magazine editor, although his first experience with clay came while studying art at college many years ago, where his love of pottery began. He was also a contestant on Series 6 of The Great Pottery Throwdown, an experience he describes as one of the highlights of his life.
