Welcome Back to Lumsdale Valley – an update on the scheduled monument.
From Monday the 2nd of August, Lumsdale Valley will reopen to visitors Monday to Fridays throughout the summer season. Lumsdale will remain closed during Bank Holiday Mondays, Saturdays and Sundays.
The closure during the past 12 months has allowed the valley to recover to some extent from the erosion and loss of vegetation caused by the number of visitors over several years. The Arkwright Society now need to keep the visitor numbers within manageable limits and minimise the impact on neighbours. Please respect the area and follow the rules of the site. All visitors should be aware that there are historic and natural hazards within the valley. Parking is very restricted within the Lumsdale area and there are no facilities available.
We thank you for your patience during the last year and with the closure of Lumsdale during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Arkwright Society welcomes you back to the valley. There are unfortunately still areas where there are serious structural issues affecting the stability of the ruins and we must restrict access for safety reasons. These will have to be fenced off for the time being. For up-to-date information and opening times visit cromfordmills.org.uk
