Leave a Gift in your Will

Protect the place you love forever and leave a gift that truly lasts a lifetime.

Protect the place you love forever and leave a gift that truly lasts a lifetime. A gift in your will helps preserve Sir Richard Arkwright’s Cromford Mills, for future generations to enjoy. Your legacy will ensure this historic place continues to educate, inspire, and bring people together.

How your Gift helps

The Arkwright Society works tirelessly to conserve Cromford Mills, one of the most important sites of the Industrial Revolution. But it’s not just about history, your support also helps us serve today’s community.

Your legacy can help us:

• Protect and restore historic buildings and landscapes
• Provide learning and skills opportunities for local people
• Deliver volunteering programmes that build confidence and experience
• Offer inclusive community activities that connect people to our shared heritage
• Educate visitors about the site’s global significance and role in shaping modern industry

Every gift, large or small, makes a lasting difference.

Gifts in wills are a vital part of our charity’s income and allow us to continue both our heritage and community work well into the future.

Commonly asked questions about leaving a legacy

We’ve answered some of the commonly asked questions below, but if you need more information please email us on info@arkwrightsociety.org.uk. There are also a series of useful videos made by Remember a Charity to help you with your decision to leave a gift in your will – you can watch these in the section at the bottom of this page.

Do I need to be a member to leave a gift in your will?

You don’t, anyone can leave a gift to the Trust in their will.

Do I have to leave a large amount?

Not at all, you can leave any amount you like and even the smallest amount can make a big difference.

Can you provide legal advice?

We cannot provide legal advice, but we can talk to you about the benefit that your gift will provide to the Arkwright Society and Cromford Mills.

Do I need to notify the Trust that I’ve chosen to include them in my will?

While you don’t need to tell us, it’s really helpful if you do and it means we can personally thank you too.

If the Arkwright Society is not specifically mentioned in my will, can they still receive a donation if I tell family I want them to?

Sadly, we will not receive your gift unless it is included in your will.

Tax matters

100 per cent of the value of your gift will be received by The Arkwright Society charity number 515526. A gift in a Will is exempt from tax and may reduce inheritance tax liabilities if your estate is over the threshold.
