We are happy to announce we have been awarded a wildwood tree pack from the Woodland Trust to use in the ongoing habitat improvements in Lumsdale. You may have noticed many of the recent work undertaken to stabilize the buildings and improve the landscape for all of the many visitors to Lumsdale. We now have a Woodland Management Plan covering the next ten years which will see significant development of the wildlife habitats in the valley. The vast majority of this work is carried out by volunteers.
If you love Lumsdale and want to be part of the ongoing improvements please come along to our tree planting morning on Saturday the 24th March from 10:00am until 1:00pm.
We will be planting small whips at several locations in the valley. If possible please bring a spade or digging tool and some gloves. We do have some equipment available to loan. The plants are small so the job should be suitable for all ages. Plants, tools and instructions will be available from Plantation Lodge which is around 200meters down into Lumsdale from the parking in the layby opposite Highfields School. This is on the private road opposite the first Lumsdale information board.
Please wear strong shoes or boots (wellingtons maybe necessary to cross the brook and access the base of the Bottle Tip).
This is the first major planting event in Lumsdale for some years and will be part of a continuing cycle to improve the age and species profile in the valley for future generations. By taking part both you and your family and friends can look forward to seeing your handiwork develop over many years to come.
