Cromford Mills goes digital!

In September our application to Historic England’s Projects and Activities Fund was successful.  The project is about the short-term crisis created by the impact of COVID and the long-term visitor engagement at Cromford Mills.  In the short term the Arkwright Society will create new digital activities and methods of public engagement, creating resources and skills that will be available for the long term, shaping the future of our visitor offer. 

 

Watch this space for a new website that will better engage with our audiences and support income streams including online tickets and membership.  The Society will also be working with exciting new technologies to help more people engage with Cromford Mills both on and offsite, including online events and AR and QR technologies.  This is an exciting new world for Cromford Mills to explore and a great way to engage with our audiences, strengthen relationships and create new ones.  The legacy created by this project aims to generate stronger public support for Cromford Mills and better engagement with partners along the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site. 

 

Head of Heritage, Hannah Steggles, said, ‘This is a fantastic project and will really help Cromford Mills to move forward and keep engaging with our audiences through a variety of platforms.  We are thankful to Historic England for their support with this work, as the first lockdown really highlighted how behind the curve we are with the use of digital technology, but also the potential of what we could be doing.  This project will help us to untap that and create a great legacy for us to move forward with.’
