Who was this famous man, what did he do in Cromford and how did he change the world?

Led by an expert guide, enjoy a fully led and resourced exploration of Cromford Mills and Cromford Village. This enquiry-based day will allow your class to use a variety of source material, including paintings, text, artefacts and a CGI audio visual experience that brings Richard Arkwright to life, to build up a picture of this important man from history and find out how he became known as the ‘Father of the Factory System’.

Suitable for: up to 1 class

Who was Sir Richard Arkwright Programme

Immerse yourself in creating pieces of artwork inspired by Cromford Mills – a fully planned day with one led workshop and two self-led activities.

Cromford Mills sits within the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site. Your class will explore and learn about this special site with its huge mill buildings and wonderful wildlife; they will be taught different printing techniques to create a piece of class art inspired by Paul Klee. The self-led activities will allow the class to use ‘shape’ as a starting point to make individual sketches in the style of LS Lowry before thinking about sculpture and creating amazing artwork inspired by the site and Andy Goldsworthy.

Suitable for: 1 class of KS1 pupils.

Time: 5 hours.

Structure: Part-led. Can be fully led by Cromford Mills staff for an additional cost, please let us know when booking.
