Volunteer Open Day Showcase

Saturday, March 14, 2020

10am - 4pm

Experience free mini tours at Cromford Mills and learn first-hand what it is like to be a volunteer in the local community.

Have you ever wondered what it is like to volunteer at a World Heritage Site? Come and find out at the Cromford Mills Open Day Showcase on Saturday 14th March to see why volunteering might be for you. Strutt’s North Mill from Belper and Birdswood canal boat team from just over the road at the Cromford Canal will also be joining the day to share their volunteering opportunities. With so many fantastic organisations in the Derwent Valley, there is so much to get involved in for all ages and interests.

Here at Cromford we are looking for more volunteers to help in a variety of areas, including tour guiding, costumed role play, and welcoming visitors in our award-winning Visitor Centre. You’ll have the opportunity to work in an incredible setting as part of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site and will support the industrial heritage we are working to preserve.

Volunteering can be a great experience to meet new people, simply learn something new or kick-start your career. The Open Day on the 14th March is a fantastic opportunity to learn more about the benefits of volunteering at Cromford. The event will run from 10am -4pm, with refreshments and a chance to talk to a variety of organisations.

Steve, who is a Tour Guide and volunteers in the Visitor Centre enjoys working with a great team – ‘I have been a volunteer at Cromford Mills for 5 years and it offers great opportunities for higher learning and self-improvement. It is a really great team here and I thoroughly enjoy being a part of it.’

At the Open Day there will be a range of bookable ‘mini tours’ throughout the day from 10:30am every hour to see what Cromford Mills is like, allowing you to explore some behind the scenes spaces and chat to the friendly staff and volunteer team.
