Emily Strutt - A Photographic Diary
Arkwright Society Evening Talk
7.00pm Cheese & Wine: 7.30pm Talk starts
Adrian Farmer (DVMWHS) talks about Emily Strutt, wife of George Herbert Strutt, of the famous Strutt family of Belper. Emily started taking photographs from 1908 until the 1920s, and the life of this privileged couple and their young family is well-documented in some very lovely images taken as their family grew up – holidays in Scotland and Wales, life at home in Makeney and later Bridge Hill House. It records the final few years of the Edwardian era and the war years, before the death of George Herbert in 1928, which resulted in the selling off of their local estate and the loss of their connections with the Derwent Valley.
Cost: £8. Your ticket includes cheese and wine.
