Chatsworth Players – The Merry Wives of Windsor

Double-meanings, disguises, dirty laundry, a Welsh windbag and a French doctor abound as Sir John Falstaff sets about improving his financial situation by wooing Mistress Page and Mistress Ford. But the ‘Merry Wives’ quickly cotton on to his tricks and decide to have a bit of fun of their own at Falstaff’s expense… Merry Wives is an absolute hoot!

Tradition has it that The Merry Wives of Windsor was written at the request of Queen Elizabeth I. After watching Henry IV Part I, she asked Shakespeare to write a play showing Falstaff in love…

So grab your camping chair or picnic blanket, some snacks, and weather-appropriate clothing (we will go ahead in the rain) and head to Cromford Mills for Shakespeare’s wonderfully entertaining The Merry Wives of Windsor.
