Photographers Ashley Franklin and Ian Daisley – both based in the Derwent Valley – are working with the Arkwright Society to publish the first ever photo book of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site in 2022, as the World Heritage Site celebrates its 20th anniversary. The book will also celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Arkwright Society and the 250th anniversary of Sir Richard Arkwright opening the first mill in Cromford and establishing the factory system, which still impacts on our lives today. There will also be an exhibition of the main images from the book which will tour the Derwent Valley mills.
What is exciting about this whole project is that YOUR photography could be featured in both the book and exhibition. Ashley and Ian invite you to submit up to 15 images of the Derwent Valley – its industrial heritage, landscape, people & places, and wildlife. Any photographer who has just one image selected for the book will also receive a free complimentary copy of the hardback publication.
