Strutts North Mill
University of Derby
We ave been the home of innovation and pioneering partnerships since Sir Richard Arkwright and Jedidiah Strutt first shook hands in 1771. From renewable energy revolutions, to society-shaping invention and industry, the heritage of Cromford Mills continues to impact our lives today. While conserving and celebrating that, we are always looking ahead. We are determined to contribute to a better future.
Strutt’s North Mill
We have worked closely with volunteers and the Belper North Mill Trust based at Strutt’s North Mill in Belper. They partnered with Cromford Mills to redisplay items from their site within our visitor centre. You can still visit Strutt’s North Mill, built in 1804, and take an external guided tour of the mill site, its watercourses, and the River Gardens, to discover the history of cotton spinning in the heart of the Derwent Valley.
University of Derby
We aim to increase collaborative working. Students at the university are given opportunities to work on projects and activities that enrich their learning experience and enhance their employability. These range from projects on environmental sustainability, heritage research investigations and the development of materials to support those with special educational needs and disabilities.
